For those of you not based in London, Westfield Stratford City is a shopping centre built next to the London 2012 Olympic stadium. It has over 300 stores and 70 restaurants.
Every time I visit Westfield I try to find a new foodie treat.
Jamie's Italian restaurant is a joint venture with the one and only Jamie Oliver and Gennaro Contaldo.
I love Italian food and was keen to see how Jamie's restaurant would match up with some of the best in London like Latium and Gustoso.
The interior gives a good first impression, lively with a buzzing atmosphere and attentive staff who seat us at the bar for some drinks first.
We review the starters and for us it is an easy choice, it has to be one of 'Jamie's famous planks' (£6.85 per person). Cured meats, Italian Cheeses, pickles and crunchy salad.
The cured meats, mozzarella and capers were yummy.
In restaurants I generally steer clear of burgers, but my view was if anyone can do a burger it has to be Jamie Oliver. So I opted for the 'Jamie Italian Burger' (£10.95), prime British Chunk and flank steak.
I had visions of Jamie on TV saying "pukka tukka" whilst I ate it.
My better half goes for Vongole Tagliolini (£11.25), clams, chilli, garlic, parsley and white wine. This is always the dish that distinguishes an Italian and this just doesn't come close. Nice but just lacked the real flavour and kick that was expected. It should have had an amazing taste given the quality ingredients.
Overall a relaxed dining experience, reasonably priced but I wasn't wowed over by the food.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Up to anything fun? Share your plans in the comments below.

OMG Westfield Stratford is my home ... I used to spend so much of my time there! I worked near Liverpool Street so it was so convenient dashing there after work. I miss it :(
ReplyDeleteHave you tried The Cow (http://www.geronimo-inns.co.uk/london-the-cow)? Me and a friend stumbled across it a while ago and it became our favourite place to go in Westfield, it was so peaceful ... I think it's possibly getting more popular now though.
Anyway, sorry - supposed to be talking about Jamies! I'm still yet to go to one, although we do now have one in Newcastle so I may get there at some point, just to see what it's all about!

Westfield is great for shopping, that is accept for at Christmas when it has so many people it is horrendous. I work near Liverpool street too how funny, shame your not still down here we could have done lunch. Thanks for the tip on the cow restaurant will definitely have to try this out. Hope you have had a nice weekend Lucy x
DeleteI would LOVE to visit a Jamies restaurant! The food looks delicious, I'm never wowed by food, apart from homemade lamb dinners!

Ooh home made lamb dinners sound good. I really like Jamie Oliver as a chef so I will definitely try an alternative restaurant that he owns. Hope you have had a nice weekend Lucy x
DeleteShame to hear the food wasn't quite what you'd hoped for. Jamie's Italians seem be very hit and miss - I've been to the one in Leeds and had an excellent meal but know others who have had both good and disappointing food in there!
ReplyDeleteI think that's really true of the ones in london some people have loved their food. The problem in london there is so much choice and there is definitely better Italians for a similar price so not sure I would bother again. Glad the one in Leeds is nice Lucy
DeleteI usually steer clear of chains but I have been wanting to try Jamie's for a while and there's one in Newcastle now. It's a shame it wasn't brilliant. I think chains can often be so hit and miss. I recently went to ask which is somewhere I never rated but I had some tesco vouchers to use and I have to say it was the best Italian I have had in a long time and was better than a few meals I have had in Italy. I was very pleasantly surprised! X
ReplyDeleteSo right chains are often hit and miss. I am with you however on Ask restaurant the quality of their food is generally good where ever you go. Hope you have had a nice weekend x
DeleteLooks so delicious!

DeletePukka Tukka - love it - can picture him saying that too! Ooh the burger looks delicious...we're guessing you needed a knife & fork for that one?! ;-) Great restaurant.

DeleteWhen I saw your title, I thought, "Surely not a Jamie Oliver place". I was so excited when I saw that indeed, it was! I LOVE him. Too bad the food wasn't incredible :( I've been to the Westfields in Sydney. So overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI love Jamie Oliver too, the food was ok just not amazing. Sydney Westfield I bet is brilliant too Lucy x
